Orthopedic appointment

The day started off with a four miler at Garin with Boomer. I ran the whole thing, figuring the doctor today would (again) tell me I couldn't run for a while. Less than two miles in, when I started on the flat surface around the pond, my knee started giving me pain. Uphill and downhill portions don't make it hurt AT ALL.

This is what the day has turned into:

Of course, I had to have X-rays and nothing showed up there. An assistant and the doctor examined my knee before telling me my symptoms are pointing to a torn meniscus. They have ordered an MRI. My insurance company has to approve it. I will find out Thursday, if they will pay for that. I will know in about a week, what's going on with the knee.
I can continue to walk and hike. She says it's not like I'm going to do any more damage to it. So, hike and walk I will do.
Until later.............

Sorry for the pain in the knee! I am glad, however, that they're suggesting an MRI.

Be well!

dominic had a torn meniscus and it healed. he gets fish oil in large amounts and we are pretty sure that did the trick. i hope you get the mri.

Hope everything goes through well - even if it does take a while for everything to process.
Boomer sure does look like he likes hikes :)

I hope insurance will pay for the MRI so they can figure out what EXACTLY is wrong so that it can be fixed.

Yep, a torn meniscus is what I had.

Sounds more like a pain in the ass to me...

Best of luck and hopefully this doc has a clue.

David is still wearing his knee brace (he discovered the hard way that it really helps), but he got through 16 miles of the Stevens Creek 50K course all right on Sunday. I of course tripped and banged my knee hard- not so much trouble then as after it swelled up the last couple of days!

Anyway, if you have the same problem he had (perhaps a damaged miniscus, but no MRI to prove it), he slowly got better after a month to 6 weeks of easy, short and slow running and is back to running faster and doing downhills again, so I imagine you'll be back to regular running in a few weeks if you can be patient.

I think you'll be fine if you go by feel and don't push past your current limits. Keep us posted and good luck!

Hey, welcome to my world, we could be twins! My knee brace is exactly the same...they wouldn't give me a MRI, the waiting list is over a year.

I'm now 4 months into recovery, however, I need some of your "positivity" mine is greatly lacking at the moment.

Oooooh that knee brace is SEX-EEEEEEE!

Walter had a torn meniscus. He mostly plays basketball (lots of lateral movement) and runs (a little bit as I've noted). He took it easy for awhile, and it healed. Glad you're gonna get an MRI. That should tell you for sure.

I am with AKA Alice, only you could make a knee brace look so cute!

I am so sorry that you are still having such trouble with that knee. I guess I was hoping it was just pissed at you for the 50K and would get better.

RE: your comment, you will DEFINITELY be involved in my run training! I can't wait to hit the trails with you and Boomer again and if it is cool we can probably talk Lucy into it!

Hang in there girl!

Hey, see I do read your blog! LOL! Sometimes I forget to comment. Hope the insurance covers the MRI and hope it shows that everything is a-ok. You're dog is beautiful. What kind is it?
